Gratitude

It has been one of the toughest weeks of 2017 by far.

Staying afloat and remaining positive has never taken so much out of me. I am however, a firm believer that we all need to have some bad days to sincerely appreciate the good ones πŸ™‚

I am training myself to see the light even when I’m stuck in the middle of what seems to be a never-ending storm. As a result, there are some things that moved me this past week that I really just need to put out there and extend some gratitude for.

Many of you know that I lost my son. Each year, I am overwhelmed by the mothers day messages I receive. The kind words and reassurance that my little soldier is watching over me, always warms my heart. To each and every one of you who took the time out to send me those beautiful messages, I say Thank You and this is from the depths of my heart.

The one wish received however, really touched my heart and will forever remain embedded in my minds’ box of sentimental memories. The wish from my mentee. Many of you would also know that I mentor a beautiful 13 year old little girl at one of the kiddies homes here in Durban. This is done through an absolutely wonderful programme; The Bright Star mentorship programme. This is one of the very many programmes run by the Peace agency.

You guys should really check the programme out, you can do so by clicking here. You can also check out information on the Peace Agency and other projects linked to them by clicking here. You guys are welcome to comment or message me for more information as well πŸ™‚

I am currently in my second year of mentoring through this programme and you would have seen through  my previous posts just how amazing my mentee is. She made me the most beautiful card with the most heart warming words. God really has a constant way of showing me just how much he loves me. I really feel so privileged being apart of this little one’s life. With each weekly visit, I am constantly fulfilled. #Forevergrateful

I also need to extend my gratitude to my friends, family and significant other. Knowing just how trying this week has been, these guys are always at my side reminding me to keep going, reminding me of God, reminding me that I have been through worse. These guys are always encouraging me and boy oh boy, they never allow me to wallow. I promise you, if it was not for them, I don’t even want to think of the position I would be in and I mean really, what more could a girl possibly ask for? #Mysupportstructureisbetterthanyours

Lastly, my creator. You know how we sometimes have those silent prayers that our hearts whisper but we brush off? yeah those. God always seems to listen and let me know in his own way that he has heard. Me being able to write this post is really only by his will and permission and therefore I have to honor him. #blessedbeyondmeasure

so God, thank you for everything, thank you for my heavenly angel that is there with you, thank you for my mentee and allowing be to be apart of such a phenomenal mentorship programme, thank you for my family, friends and my special person and thank you for never giving up on me. People often ask me how do I remain so grounded and my answer was, is and  will always be: my faith and my God.

So with that done, I will encourage you to give thanks and to purposely remind yourself of all the good things you got going in your life, especially when you have 101 things to complain about. It has worked for me, I am sure it will for you too.

Love and light always,

From just an ordinary girl Xx

Today we celebrated my mentee, Mbali’s, 13th birthday πŸŽ‰

Happy birthday sweetheart! May Gods richest blessings be upon you always!

Thank you for the wonderful year we’ve had together, your charismatic personality together with that gorgeous smile reminds me each week how blessed I  am to have you in my life.

May you always remain as ambitious and kind as you are! Only you would make me a card on your birthday πŸ’‹

My family ( yes you’re family lamz)Today was simply amazing. Thank you all for coming out and making Mbali’s day as special as she is, for all the wonderful gifts but mostly yourls time and interaction with her. I could never have done this without you guys and am so grateful for the support.

Mum and dad , on yourls only day off, Kasi for coming out and spending the day with us, I know you guys did this because you know how important it was for me to make her day special and Kasi for her beautiful gift.

Fathi and Dosie, Kasi for sacrificing yourls time and for the beautiful gift as well. I appreciate all that you guys do and also appreciate that you guys support me through this mentorship programme journey. The world can be changed by one good deed at a time and with family like you all, no doubt it can πŸ’‹

Lamia! Words fail me because you also have supported me as a mentor from day one. Shukran for always being there when I need you and for Mbali’s beautiful gift! I hope that she can take away lessons by just witnessing these simple little acts that I expose her to.

My eela , affy and leelo, I know I can always depend on you kids to brighten up anyday! I look at yourl and love how you all can love and accept freely. May you guys always go through life and see the world through these same eyes; free of prejudices of all kinds.

The William Clark children’s home and the house mothers, thank you for providing a home, love and care to our mentees. Not only do you keep their dreams alive but you guys mould them and equipt them to be the best that they can be.

Lastly, to the Peace agency, thank you guys for awarding me the opportunity to join your mentorship programme. I had tons of concerns walking into this but you guys have been so supportive and I can now understand what you guys meant when you said it is more a blessing for us as the mentor. The work you guys do is amazing and I will forever do my part to ensure that it is recognized.

May the almighty bless you all abundantly and multiply yourls rizik, Favour and blessings inshallah Ameen!

Fun was had and as I always say… if you can be anything in this world, be kind.

Love and well wishes

Help and be helped

It feels like just the other day that I wrote this. Its now 4 months that im apart of the Bright Stars mentorship programme and it has been nothing less than life changing.

I was a little sceptical in the begining; having been given a 12 year old, I often questioned if I’ll be skilled enough. I mean I barely can make sense of whats going on in my life lol.

It is amazing how just showing up, every week for as little as an hour can change you and the life of another human being!

We draw, write, read, colour talk about music, have picnics, play games etc.

My mentee is an absolute star. She is a bright little 12 year old that loves reading, and loves Maths and Life skills. Her ambition in life is to become a social worker. When asked why that, she says: ” to help children like me”. I was in awe.

I went into this initiative with the intention of helping….but she’s helped me in ways I cant even begin to explain. I am adored and loved unconditionally. What more could any human being possibly ask for?

My Birthday Gift

These little gestures; this was by birthday present: a Card, a gift she had received from her previous bday and an award ahe received last year…all she had but she gave it to me.❀

My "Mothers day" card

I told her about some of the hardships I’ve been through; the loss of my son a few years ago. She cried and opened up about some of her tough times. And on mothers day, this was my card.

A random card

I love writing and so we’ve kinda got into the habit of writing each other letters or cards from time to time.

My get-well-soon card

I was hospitalised for about 3 weeks in April and couldnt make my weekly visits with her. She sent this with one of my fellow mentors.

A random thank you

Some time back she was having an issue with her Maths, we worked on it and she’s doing alot better now. We read almost every week and she loves it. I started taking my nieces with me coz i believe they must grow up with the mentality of sharing. With a willness to help and be helped. They enjoy her company and she adores them. We even went for a picnic on the beach.

The final product. Such fun

In trying to teach her that she can be anything she wants to be, it has ignited a spark in me that has been dormant for way too long. A spark that doesnt know mediocre. I have the urge and will to make a difference, one act of kindness at a time. One person at a time…Change starts with Me.
