Been having a particularly tough time managing my stresses, especially at work. Generally, positive thinking is what I do, it’s my natural approach to anything I face.
However, of late it’s becoming more and more difficult for me to do. This is a very dangerous space to be in, especially for me because I’ve worked so hard to get out of a verg negative era of my life.
So amongst other things, I’ve been perusing online in hope to come across something that would spark some sought of positivity within…
… to shed some light in what seems to be a very dark space, I came across these bubblegum figures and this quote: (God bless the written word and the writers who write them)
” The darkest hour has only 60 minutes “
~ Morris Mandel
This quote got me pondering instantly. It reassured me that nothing in this life time is ever permanent and that even dark times have their expiry dates. #aameen
I remember reading that actions derive from thoughts. This stuck with me and will continue to stick with me as I journey through this thing called life.
This is why, when I think about more negative than positive things, I frantically search for something, anything, just to change my thought process.
I think it’s essential that we do this before we get consumed. Seems like this quote and my bubble gang are my life lines for today, tomorrow shall see for itself.
I got this random message from one of my closest girlfriends the other morning and it just made me realize how important it is for one to choose the people they keep around them. This message literally brightened up my whole day.
Tonight, I got invited by another close girl friend of mine to attend a fundraiser for such an amazing organization. I’m busy working on doing some research on this phenomenal org and will definitely be sharing it with you all. The night comprised local and international acts of singing, poetry and comedy. All in the name of encouraging normal folk like you and I to get involved do our part in making our community a better place to live and grow in. But I will dedicate an entire post to giving the 411 on this amazing org.
Moving along, These two gestures from my girlfriends have inspired the quote of today:
Associate yourself with people of good quality. For it is better to be alone than in bad company
~ Booker T Washington
I absolutely agree.
You are, who you hang around with and that’s a fact.
We often hear the old folk say : ifyou lie with dogs, you bound to wake up with fleas. They knew what they were talking about.
I’ve got a lot of wrongs to right, but one thing I’ve always been blessed with, is my support structure. My circle of real friends has grown significantly smaller over the years, but the bond between my friends and I, has grown so much stronger.
We are each other’s strength, courage, sight, logic, comic, sister, stylist, driver, shrink, cheer leader, confidence, entertainment and even a target. The beauty lies in that even when we make each other so mad, when it comes to the wire, we don’t have to question who will be there and who wouldn’t.
These are the people we need in our lives, the ones who we can love when they’re down and when they’re up and the ones who can love us at our worst through to us being our best.
Your friends should ultimately push you to be and do better. And I can confidently say that mine do all of the above, even when I’m stubborn as a Muel.
So on that note, let’s take some time to reflect on the people we deem close to us. Let’s look at the character of the people we call friends pay more attention to those whom we let into our circle. It may seem trivial, but it is so important.
When women support each other, incredible things happen
Right? I don’t even need to dissect this any further but I’ll enhance on it.
You don’t need to stand and address an arena filled with women to encourage, inspire or support each other . You don’t have wait until you’re an Oprah or mother Theresa of a nation to start valuing and encouraging women to be the best they can be or to “lead” women away from the superficial crap we consume ourselves with.
A few girlfriends and I planned a mini road trip and one night slumber not far from home. People honestly thought that we were in some foreign place because of all of the amazing pics we posted, but those were just BTWs.
The significance of the trip was to break away from reality and just to recoop. The trip was planned to act as a reset button. Time to stop. Reflect and then start again.
Not everybody knew each other however, all were friends of mine. I suggested these ladies because I know all of them personally and I know the journeys we’ve all travelled and the destinations we all hoping to reach. So with Des’s idea for the road trip and us all confirming, it was a recipe for success!
The weekend was beyond refreshing and went off smoothly, we all focused on the most important things; being our selves and sharing perspectives to enhance each other’s thought processes, sharing each other’s joys and then becoming more sensitive to the battles that us women face. We chilled, laughed, expressed, ate, cooked, embraced and loved! Oh and posed 😜
I will be the first to say that I left that weekend away with loads of gratitude, a wider perspective, beautiful memories, fun photos and sisters for life…yes, we’re already planning our next one.
The most beautiful thing for me is that we’re all so similar yet so different. We don’t all belong to the same religion, don’t all have kids, husbands or boyfriends but we had such an amazing time.
That’s all you need to encourage and support your fellow women; spend quality time with them for the sake of bettering yourself and them and then the rest automatically falls into place. We had no time for gossip, judgment, shade throwing, scandling , fighting or any cattish behavior.
So! Write your fellow women a note, dedicate a status or throw in a motivating hashtag to a pic. Go for a picnic, take a drive , catch a movie or even stay home and cook and for or bake. Pout. Anything! But start.
Imagine a world where our women are dedicated to building each other up as opposed to tearing each other down. It seems beautiful, amazing, strong and all things nice to me.
” The strength of a nation derives from the integrity of the home”
~ Confusius ( doesn’t seem confused to me 🙈)
I know I say this about every quote I publish, but I love this quote!
What is integrity?
To me, integrity is doing the right thing when nobody’s watching, it is doing what needs to be done based on principle and not on personal gain.
You agree? (Feel free to drop a comment and tell what it means to you.)
If we look around, how strong are our nations? I can tell you that mine is losing the trust of its people as the days go by. We’re constantly hearing of the bribery, fraud and corruption that’s going on in and with our government. The number of married people having affairs are on the rise. Kids are being kidnapped, cars are being hijacked, people are being killed for what’s rightfully theirs. Businesses are overcharging and under delivering. Service in general is just on the decrease.
If we all practice integrity and Inturn teach our young and loved ones by our actions, people would be doing the right thing always or atleast most of the time. We wouldn’t have as much of the stresses that we’re facing today and life would just have one less thing to deal with.
Whilst it would be rather utopian to think this is as simple as night and day, as we know the devil is a liar and is always lurking around, I believe we can reduce this significantly and just like everything else, it starts with you and I.
So let’s do the right thing always, let’s do what’s fair based on principle and not on personal gain. Not only will we strengthen our nation, but God will be pleased with us as well!
Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss in life is what dies inside us while we live.
~ Norman Cousins
Death. A topic none of us, well atleast many of us don’t like to speak about, even though, to me, it should be discussed a lot more.
With the world we live in, it’s so easy to get consumed and to forget that this life is temporary, it’s just a test. This life was never meant to be permanent.
This quote resonated so well with me because death is something guaranteed, it’s something we should expect right? Therefore, it cannot be the greatest “loss” of life because in many cases when you lose something, it’s unexpected, you have no warning that you’re going to lose it.
The greatest loss is indeed one where we have the capacity to do what we love and what’s required of us but we don’t, for whatever reason that may be. The greatest loss is losing our heart, or our fire; that passion that we was once had. We lose our mark and become a thing just existing day after day.
We lose sight of the career goals we once dreamed of. We lose sight of the essence of family and friends and true relations. We lose the kid in us, we forget how to see fun, colour and happiness in everything that we do. We forget the importance of God and our religious and spiritual obligation, we lose our humanity and moral obligations. We get consumed with things that really don’t matter.
Why? Isn’t that the greatest loss because we have the time, we have the gift of life. We have the opportunity.
It needs to all change.
Let’s use our time on this earth to fulfill all of our religious and spiritual obligations and our hearts desires. So that one day when we pass, we would be remembered for just that.
Life is all about balance, so whilst it’s ok to lose our spark sometime, it’s equally important to reignite that spark again.
Don’t let that die whilst you’re still alive. If anything, help be the match that reignites the spark back in somebody else. Be purposeful.
May we all strive harder to reignite that spark within and to leave our mark on this earth.

A father is neither an anchor to hold us back, nor a sail to take us there, but a guiding light whose love shows us the way
Whilst there’s many dads who are non existent, today we celebrate the fathers who are present in their kids lives, the ones that go far and beyond to do and be better.
Today I celebrate my father who is my guiding light. I started writing this post late lastnight, my dad wasn’t home yet, neither was he out with his friends. He was busy worshiping our creator at the mosque…at that time! I knew that I needed to finish this post as a small token of honour and appreciation.
You see my father is the best, I know it may seem biased because all girls are generally for their dads and all think that their fathers are the best, rightfully so.
But here’s why I say mine is. My father is the perfect example of what a Muslim should be; flaw-filled but always striving to do and be better in terms of character.
As old as I am, he still is my provider, my protector, my counselor, my confidant, my therapist, my guide, my example, my teacher. He still is my favourite soccer player, my movie date partner and sometimes my frenemy.
He is so bold yet so humble, my dad does tons of community work in our area. He makes time to visit and look after the elders in our community and also has such a playful yet impactful relationship with the youth. He makes me strive to do to more for others… what better example could I possibly need?
He literally makes lives easier, during the week he will clean and do our washing, he will go out of his way to ensure that he’s family is always #1, that we’re comfortable and happy even if it may tire him.
He is so fit 🙈at 53 he still plays soccer every Saturday and trains during the week ( this is one thing I could not follow suite with hahahah)
My fathers dedication to his faith is one of the most admirable things about him, he ensures he answers the call to prayer 5times a day, at his age, he is still learning to read Arabic and still attends madressa to learn more. God is really the greatest!
He is the perfect grand dad to my nieces , takes time to do the little things that make their little hearts happy, be it tickles, movies, outings etc.
He tries his best To honour my mother and that is such a beautiful thing to witness! Because she is a queen and he knows that. Witnessing him love and respect and honour her is a perfect example to us as his daughters because we know what not to settle for.
He is just an all round amazing dad and if he knew I published this, it would probably upset him because he’s that humble in all he does. I always get told after taking a picture of him “don’t put that on FACEBUCK” 🤣Yeap technology and him aren’t friends! #bless
So Daddy, words will never be able to thank you enough for the role you play in my life. Always there to push me when I’m struggling and there to catch me when I’m about to fall.
You are a Muslim personified, you teach me that it’s ok not to be perfect but that I should always persevere to be better in character for the sake of my creator and nobody else.
You teach me that I should want for my brother and neighbors all that I want for myself. You teach me that helping others is an obligation and not just a thing to do. You teach me to have courage and stand for what’s right even when it may not be fruitful and you teach me to be kind.
May the almighty bless you with a long , happy and healthy life so that you can continue doing the amazing work that you so wonderfully do, may he make it so that one day I could be nearly as impactful as you are inshallah ( by the will and permission of Allah). May all your hearts desires be fulfilled because I know they’re all pure. May Allah always be your guide and may he always help you with every difficulty you face. Aaameen
Happy daddy’s day to all the amazing dads out there! We need you.
Love, light and appreciation from just an ordinary girl
So today, I’m sharing a quote that came to me whilst I was writing this post. I’ve been seeing the behavior of some women outchea together with doing some self reflection and that got me 💭. So here it goes…
If you know me, you’d know that I am all about empowering people, women especially. I believe us women are Devine species, we have power. We birth nations. We subtle yet fierce. We are plan makers. We’re strong, both emotionally and physically. We endure with a smile and well the list of how awesome I think we are can go on for days.
We often are quick to call out men and deem them trash, some of whom rightly deserve such tags. But let me tell you about the two kinds of women on this earth because honestly, some of us are beneath trash!
You get the woman who knows her power, she knows that she can do what men can do, but chooses not to because she knows that her Devine purpose was not to be like men. She knows that her devine purpose is to be something more powerful; support, companionship, compassion, fierce, teachers of the home, of the nation!
What she does, she knows that nobody, not even men can do. She knows that men have a purpose and so do women and so she’s only concerned with being the best she can be in fulfilling that purpose. (I aspire to be just like this)
Then you get the woman who THINKS she knows her power and Inturn misuses it. The one who judges and looks down upon her fellow sisters, the one who is more consumed with being in competition for worldly things than actually getting her eish in order. The one who is arrogant and feels like the world owes her. The one who will encourage ruthless behavior just to prove a point to validate herself. ( I’m guilty of some of these things, I never encourage ruthless behavior and I don’t compete though!)
Women can destroy, as easily as they can build nations.
We will never be equal to men because then we’d need to be compared to them and really! There’s no comparison.
Men were put on this earth to carry out their own set of purposes; head their homes, provide for their families, Protect their loved ones, Persue their person of honour etc. It really wouldn’t be fair to compare!
If we can just go back to the basics (of understanding men and women were put on this earth for different purposes) for a second, lots of things can be changed. It’s effects can be powerful.
If we can raise women who know their power as opposed to thinking they know their power or misusing it, things like affairs, divorces, broken homes etc. will minimize. If we go back to being okay with what our sole purpose is, and force men into fulfilling what they’ve been put on this earth to do (by not settling for less) we would not have the repercussions of kids acting out coz their fathers are nowhere to be seen. Abuse to women and children will minimize and the world will just be a more respectful place to live in. Utopian you may say? I say say it starts with you and I.
Imagine, all this lies in the power of a woman and the choice of how she will use her God-given power.
And no honey, God will never send you somebody else’s husband. Having an affair should not give your airs and graces about yourself. You should not feel like you’ve “won” because men aren’t prizes, and your fellow women are not your enemies. Also, gaining anything in this world on anything but merit should not make you feel proud.
Always think, if what you do to others were to be done unto you, how would you feel. If it’s not good, you know what to do.
