The Chef’s Table: Capsicum diploma class of ’17 edition

Last year I was blown away when I attended my baby bro’s (well he’s not a baby anymore but he will always be our “boy”) banquet. I was amazed at the effort, team work and skill his class had. If you didn’t make it to read that post or see the pictures, click here

My boeta ❤️

This year was even more emotional.

My brother is currently doing his diploma at the Capsicum Culinary Arts Studios here in Durban . They hosted their Chef’s Table on Friday, 26 May 2017 at their campus. He was chosen to be the head chef for the function and so this was a big deal for me. So much so that not even bronchitis could keep me from attending his special day.

You would have read in the piece I wrote last year, why seeing him do so well is such a great joy for my family and I and boy oh boy, there is no prouder sister than I. All I can do is keep praying that the almighty guides him and keeps him steadfast and keep thanking the almighty for this gift that he has blessed my baby brother with, because he is darn gifted when it comes to food!

Ok, enough with all the mooshy talk,

look at the pictures of this year’s chef’s table. The class he has this year is a lot bigger than the class he was with last year. But that didn’t stop them from wowing us all. From the friendly welcome greets, to the nervous smiles, the team work and the delicious food, we experienced it all. It was evident that they put their hearts and souls into this evening In all hope that it would be a success.

The starter

The starter was ” A taste of Harrismith” It was a salad comprised of a bed of rocket with beetroot, pomegranate seeds, biltong and their own mayonnaise which served as the dressing. I’m not a salad girl but my tile was cleaned out. Yes, you read right, they served us on these super cute hectagon tiles! How cute!!!

Each meal was paired with a non alcoholic drink.

The main course

The main was ” lamb trio with veggies on a hill” this was lamb done three ways, with three different kinds of mushroom, a burnt onion, butternut and beetroot purée, and baby potatoes. This by far was something you’d eat / order at a top Restuarant! The flavours were amazing and the meal was presented beautifully, you almost didn’t want to indulge!

We also had pallet cleanses in between, beautiful citrus flavours and jelly cleanser to allow us to appreciate all the flavours of the dishes to come

The pallet cleanser

The dessert 🍨 was absolutely amazing. Guys I swear, I’m not being biased but we have amazing talent coming up in the Chef industry. The world isn’t ready I tell ya!

Dessert 🍨

The dessert was “Brrrrrr” made up of panacota with orange infused short-bread crumble on a bed of a raspberry reduction with chocolate and strawberry and mini meringues.

One would think that it was a lot going on and that the flavors would clash yeah?

Absolutely not, if anything, it was the total opposite! The flavours married together so well. I was truelly blown away.

The night ended off with games, laughter, heartfelt speeches and cheers from all who attended.

It was a ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ experience indeed🙏🏼♥️

This class should really be proud of themselves because I felt honoured being apart of this amazing evening that they prepared for.

Well done you guys!

#DFH #34

I wanna be like the kyles from my wife and kids.

I think their relationship dynamics and their way of parenting is so cool.Fun but always with a lesson learnt.

I love their unity and how they feed off each other’s crazy. I love their insane ways of offering their support and interest in each other’s goals. I love how God remains at the center of what the do.

Am I crazy to want to be like people from a sitcom ? Does relationships like this even exist?

Can we be like this anyway? Can we never forget our friendship and can we keep the fun rolling…even when we need to teach lessons or when we’re needing to be taught? Can we feed off each other’s crazy and build each other up as opposed to breaking each other down? Can our ideas be tried no matter how ludicrous they may seem? Can our love be unconditional and be selfless?

A plea,

From your future wife

Xx

So I should put on record that this was my first time driving long distance. Let’s just say that I will do it again. Ramon and lucille , you guys have been such good company and a huge pillar of support. I enjoyed every sing-a-along , every game and every word of our conversation. A bonding session that was much needed and greatly enjoyed! You guys are my ray of sunshine. I’m am so privelleged to have you as a bestie Ramon and also to have gained another bestie through your marriage to Lucille. I love you guys.

Mika’ils grave visits

What an emotional experience 😭💔Ramon, Lucille and Lori… you guys…! thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there and being present. You guys are the definition of friendship and support. From walking the Avalon graveyard searching for Miks grave to cleaning his grave and planting flowers, to leaving yourls glasses to let him know his aunts were there and literally for catching me when I was falling to my lowest. I could not have asked for more. The almighty really keeps showing me just how blessed I am.

Got to see my boy and felt a ray of emotions, from heart ache to guilt , to pain, to emptiness to relief, I felt it all. I still don’t understand why he was taken away from me but I trust the almightys reasons.

Our stay

For the crazy moments, raps, #Q20, #stroke and #dori, Thank you.

Odessa, you are a gem. You opened your home to us and it really did feel like home. Thank you so much for making everything so comfortable for us. Your kids and your sister are just something else. My life is based on authentic connections and iv gained another this weekend. Can’t wait to see you both again.

Lucille and Lori, thank you girls for my amazing gift! You girls know just how I value sentimental things like this.

Cooking with Chad Le Clos

Not so long ago, I posted up about how one can use their pain to fuel their gain and how I was awarded the opportunity to write my  Discovery Vitality#personbest story. If you haven’t read the post you can read it by clicking Here.

Yesterday, we finally got to “claim” our prize; an all expense paid trip to the JHB  Discovery Vitality HealthyFood Studio to cook with Chad Le Clos and his amazing dad.

OH. MY.HAT we had such an amazing time!

A selfie just because

Amy and I had a ball from the moment we got to the King Shaka International airport.

Amy and I checked in @king Shaka international airport

We made sure that we made the best of this opportunity and all of the pics will probably confirm that we’ve done so.

From the moment we entered JHB we had a ball, the Gau train experience, seeing our Discovery offices in JHB, cooking with Chad and just mingling. It was all too beautiful.

Yeaaaappp… behind us is the gautrain rails 😁

Krispy Kreme

The Discovery Vitality HealthyFood Studio is amazing guys! I will encourage that if ever you want to be healthy ( don’t you judge my Krispy Kreme visit ok) and want to have a “master chef” experience….book a cooking course! You guys will not regret it!

Although all good things have to come to an end, the experience  will forever remain imprinted in my heart.

Our sad faces because we had to leave #sigh

To Chad and his dad, thank you guys for sharing the morning with us and not just being there but interacting and mingling with us all! Meeting you two and just watching the relationship you guys have was an absolute honour.

To the Discovery Vitality and the marketing team, you guys were amazing! Thank you so much for awarding us this opportunity and being so supportive throughout our journey! Not only did we get to cook with The Chad and his dad, but we got to meet fellow colleagues that we interact with but would probably have never met, we gained cooking knowledge and we had a ball. You guys rock awesome!

To the chefs at the HealthyFood Studio, you guys are amazing! I’ve learnt so much from being with you guys for those 2hours; cooking techniques, recipes and flavours! I can tell you guys have answered your callings because the passion you possess is so addictive.

Amy, this journey was all the more exciting because you embraced it with me! Thank you for the wonderful company and the crazy moments! This is one that goes down in the books for sure. Lenel and Naffy, for making it all the more special.

So that was my trip in a nut shell. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Be safe and stay real!
