Have ya heard? Rosefest 2019 is a thing!

During an interview that I did for SA Bloggers last year, Shekhinah mentioned that a Rose Gold Tour was one of the things she hoped to achieve. We’re super stoked to see that its happening and will not miss it for the world.

On 21 June 2019, the multi-award winning artist announced a tour that is produced by females and headlined by super amazing, talented females only. The Rosefest 2019 aims to celebrate the success of the Rose Gold platinum- selling album and aims to celebrate women.

POWER TO SHE
WHO KNOWS SHE IS A QUEEN”

– POWER TO SHE, SHEKHINAH

The dates of for the RoseFest have been released:

  • 09 August 2019 in JHB, celebrating Woman’s Day
  • 12 October 2019 in Durban, celebrating the anniversary of the Rose Gold album.

Shekhinah says: ‘I want to create a festival-like experience that is driven by the theme of escapism and feel good music’.

Talks of candy-floss, food stalls, a live band and a fun fair are spreading through the airwaves and we are loving it. The only thing better than music at a fun fair, are selfies at the fun fair rocking rose gold tinted glasses!

I mean, the artwork for the tour is dope, the line up is blazing, it’s Shekhinah Goddamit and it’s feel-good vibes all around.

I’m definitely ready to Suite up and prepare for a uniquely Different music experience. It’s definately going to be one for the books.

Golden Black creates waves #BAM

With June amongst us, rest assured we’re going to come across some very inspirational reads on our news feeds. With it being Youth month and that generally meaning that youth doing great things are showcased and celebrated, I find this post fitting.

Just over two months ago Golden Black released their first project titled BAM (By Any Means). The 15-track album is a pure delight to listen to, whether it is in the car on your way to work, having a cleaning jam session or even if you’re set to paint the town red; it creates an all- round feel-good vibe.

My favourite tracks on the album are: Perfect service, Set it off, I need you and Prjkt wolf and my hubby’s (yes, he is an avid listener) is Cream. It was a shocker to see him select the album in the car for us to vibe to, because he hardly ever listens to local music. (hey, judge him, not me…I’m a local is lekker kinda girl #giggles).

We are not the only ones who are feeling the l.o.v.e for this album. To date the hip hop/ afro-trap trio has steady album sales and close to 50K online streams. SA’s hip hop sensation Nasty-C also showed love to the group when a video was uploaded showing him jamming along to the groups “set it off” track. Click here to check it out. Need we say more? Nah! But we want to, so read along.

The group announced that there will be music videos for each track on the album and mentioned a potential deluxe version of the album featuring Nasty-C in the pipeline. For a first –time project, the group is certainly making sure it creates just the kinda waves we like to ride 😎. To make sure you don’t miss out on the 411 and the group’s next move, be sure to follow them on the social media streets. Handles to be noted at the end of this post.

The group itself consists of three young, vibrant and extremely creative individuals: Anston Kling, Fxrgo and Slay. Their real names are: Lungelo Msomi, Thabiso Mngadi and Siyalonda Mtshali respectively. Started off almost a decade ago, the group has faced their fair share of trials, but they made sure that those trials only fueled them to be bigger and better and left no room for failure or negativity.

They bounce off each other’s creativity and vibe like a well-oiled machine. These boys know what they want and will stop at nothing to ensure they get it. They are dedicated personified and understand beautifully that what you put in is what you get out.

The group is no stranger to the industry though, they have worked along side some of SA’s icons, be it as Golden Black or as Saak Beats; the group but as producers. Yeap, they are the full package. They make beats, produce, write lyrics and alles. Speak about being the full package 😊. They have worked with La Bron, Nasty C, Jnr B, Junior De Rocka, Dj Rico, Reason and Tellermann, just to name a few. I told you, they’re no strangers 😉

We certainly look forward to more amazing projects from this talented trio and wish them nothing but love, light and success.

John legend – Meet and Greet. The Darkness and Light Tour

Many times we perceive artists and their ability to do their crafts by how they are portrayed and captured by the media. By their interactions that are filmed. Whilst we can never fault their ability to do their craft, we often hear stories of how entitled some artists can be, once them and their crafts are accepted by the world.

This is not the case with John Legend. He is as humble as he is portrayed to be.

Yesterday, 07th November 2017, a day to remember. A group of friends and I won a competition which comprised a meet and greet with the legend himself and also tickets to his  darkness and Light concert here in Durban South Africa.

Now I’d love to include every detail about the build – up and anticipation to THE moment, about how we obsessed over how we looked because we wanted it to be perfect, but I will spare you guys those boring details 🤣

All I am going to say is that he is as chilled as a cucumber, he has the most amazing smile, he is an absolutely amazing performer and the love he has for his daughter and his wife and then his music, is just absolutely admirable!

Me with the legend himself

Now, if that weren’t super amazing, I also got to meet THE Shekhinah! Many of you who know me, know that I’m one of  Her biggest fans 😍🙈.

Myself, Shekhinah and Amy
Myself and Shekhinah

I was honestly in awe at how normal and humble both these performers are. They really are just ordinary people doing extra ordinary things and I wish them nothing but the best in all their future endeavors.

But that still wasn’t the highlight of the night. The highlight of the night was that I got to spend the evening with these amazing girls.

Amy, Laiyah and Myself
We sang, danced. Laughed, almost cried, got wet in the rain and loved it and even shoved our shoes off just to take the moment all in. The #carTALs. And after it all, I cooled off at Cuba and McDonald’s with this Chika and her amazing hubby.

Desiree and I

It was definitely one of THE best nights of my entire being.
A huge thank you to Big concerts and East coast radio for arranging the meet and greet. A huger thank you to everyone that helped us win , the votes, shares and support has been nothing short of amazing. And the hugest thank you to Amy and Laiyah for the memories of both making our carpool karaoke videos and lastnight, for always keeping it 100 and for the support through-out the years.

You can visit my Facebook page here to check out more videos building up to the meet and greet and concert, live feeds and more pictures.

The #carTALs: our carpool karaoke take!

So a couple of weeks ago, our company launched a platform for us to share our carpool karaoke videos. A fun initiative to get into the year-end groove.

Two of my very good friends and I decided to participate and boy did we have fun.

Who is she?

~ Red Robyn

I haven’t done a feature blog in forever, this being one of the very many reasons that I’m particularly stoked about this one. I think it is fitting that I published this considering that it is our National Youth day. In hope that this can inspire our youth to chase their dreams, work hard and remain humble.

Journey with me as we explore and get to know an artist and a musician whose popularity is gaining all the right kinds of momentum on our social media streets.

Her music, authentic pic gallery, sentimentality and kind nature are just a few of the stitches that make the Red Robyn quilt.

Q & A’s – getting to know Red robyn

Q: When did you know you that you wanted to pursue the Arts?
A: I always knew [that] I wanted to be in the arts, from about 4/5 years old.
I always loved to draw, dance and sing. I come from a family [that] was always surrounded by music so it was an easy decision for me to make.

I’ve always loved how music and the arts can speak to hearts in a very personal way. I knew [that] I wanted to be able to bring healing to people through music and the arts. Now its just about being faithful to the journey as a full time artist.

Q: Why the stage name Red Robyn
A: My second name is Robyn, after my grandfather. His name was Robin which comes from the Robin bird. I’m obsessed with symbolism and meaning so I went searching for the meaning of the Robin Bird. I came across a story of the Red Robin Bird and how it supposedly got it’s colour from sitting on Jesus’ [peace and blessings upon him] head when he died. I thought it meant that there is beauty in everything and the name stuck with me. I just thought it would be a name that would always encourage me to be bold even though I may be small/ of little importance. (you’re going to touch the world I say)

I’m so deep about everything hahaha. I literally have a story and a reason for everything.

(How special is this?)

Q: Walk us through some of the struggles/ challenges you face as an upcoming artist

A: There has definitely been hard times. Currently, I am a full-time, free lance artist and it can be difficult financially as gigs don’t always pay very well. Being an independent artist also means that you are your own PR, your own manager, events coordinator and stylist you know .. its all you. It can be overwhelming sometimes to have to always believe in yourself and carry your own name. It definitely pays off though, nothing can replace all the lifelong friendships made and the people who have been impacted by the live gigs and the music online. I never thought even 50 people would listen to my music but I am constantly surprised by all the love. ( and here’s to plenty more love, light and support

She makes the struggle look beautiful

Q: What are some of the projects you’ve worked on and/or will be working on?

A: In the last few months I have been working on an experimental musical (film) with the AFDA ( South African school of Motion Picture medium and live performances) students of the Durban North branch. (Click Here to watch the trailer). I have also been working on a collaborative mix tape with my musical partner and boy friend, Jaedon Daniel ( def an awww moment) who is the founder of the BLVCK crystals. We also went up to Cape Town in March [2017] to record two brand new singles with Red Bull Studios CPT, that was probably the craziest coolest experience, a momentous time for both of our careers.

In the next few months I will be working on a solo album and a few more collabs , as well as a staged musical production.

( Well I simply cannot wait!)

Q: What are your future aspirations ( the answer to this was so inspiring)

A: My ultimate dream is to develop a syllabus that uses the 7 intelligence theory as a foundation for developing the strengths in students from as young as 5. I see my entire journey as an artist and musician as a road to developing and understanding purpose, that will then be put into practice through the development of the syllabus. I would also like to win a Grammy , just for just hahaha. Each day presents new challenges so I try not to expect anything but to rather be open to everything. I think purpose and destiny are the two things that keep me moving forward though.

Let’s wrap it up

My say

If you had to ask me who Red Robyn is, I will tell you that she is a movement, a force to be reckoned with.

Red Robyn, May your journey be fruitful and may you always remain as true, dedicated and humble as you are. Thank you for the wonderful opportunity of doing this feature on you. #bless

What an amazing feature and now you can understand why I am so excited about this piece.
