It’s been a while since I’ve posted …3 whole days to be precise! What a trying week! 😭
A friend of mine shared this quote with me; such a simple, yet such a profound quote and I had to share it with you all.
You are always one decision away from a totally different life
Just one decision.
You just need to want whatever it is bad enough. Tired of the silent treatment? Ditch pride and say sorry. Want to go on holiday, ditch procrastination and save at that moment. Want to lose weigh? Ditch that chocolate and start eating right and excersing.
I think we get so overwhelmed in certain aspects of our lives that we forget we have choices, we come up with tons of excuses as to why we can’t do the certain things that we want but it’s just that, excuses. It’s fear subconsciously stepping in giving us all of the reasons why we shouldn’t because we’re scared of the unknown.
I’m a firm believer of, if you really want something, you can go out and get it! We sometimes always look for the quick fix, but nothing that’s worth is ever easy!
They say that the greatest emotional need of man kind is to feel appreciated. I came accross this quote and I can see why! I believe in it’s truth!
“Trade your expectation for appreciation and the world changes instantly”
~ Tony Robbins
How often do WE EXPECT people to do things for us before we feel obliged to say thank you, or to show appreciation?
If their actions don’t meet our expectation, sorry. Tough! We disregard their attempts and in some instances throw a couple of insults their way. Totally disregarding their efforts. ( I’m guilty of this sometimes)
It becomes so easy to overlook their efforts because all we care about is “I” and “me”. Buggar them or what they feel right?
We tend to show appreciation on condition. On condition of material gain and superficial standards. We often feel entitled like somebody always owes us something, it’s actually revolting when you think of it.
I always say, that our generation doesn’t know about fixing things; we don’t know about peservering and going after the things that actually matter. Hear me out, the minute we feel something is “broken” we’re quick to toss it out ... because we don’t know how to appreciate. I see it everyday, failing relationships, ruthless behavior, vandalizing, kids absconding school… the list is endless.
These days we appreciate things and use people. For as long as we’re gaining, we all good. Right?
I often ask myself where we have gone wrong! Why must we wait to gain before we can express gratitude? Why cant we be fulfilled with the little things in life and the small kind gestures people do, whether it is for us or our communities at large?
It’s so easy to rather find fault in each other, than identify and appreciate the good within us all. Then we die, and suddenly the flowers, well wishes, memories and gratitude start flooding in, too late if you ask me!
This is why I believe in today’s quote so much. Imagine a world where we appreciate people and use things instead? Saying please and thank you and sincerely meaning it? Letting our loved ones know how we appreciate the good things that they do, as opposed to constantly harping on the not so good and the things that irk us?
If we can get this sentiment right and raise our little humans in the same fashion, you won’t get as much failing relationships, vandalizing of community buildings or even kids absconding school. They will learn to appreciate every opportunity awarded to them…. gaining knowledge and then power and since they are our future, imagine how our world can change? The possibilities are endless.
Like everything else, it starts with you and I. My person and I have an appreciation session once a week, where we tell each other the things we’re appreciated in that week and we say our thank you’s. I swear, that feeling of being appreciated and expressing appreciation is better than any high that any drug can give.
Wrapping this up, I would just like to sincerely thank each and every one of you for the constant support. I would not be motivated to continue striving each day if it weren’t for your kind words, time and daily support. I appreciate it and I appreciate you.
Let’s be like pinky and the brain and start changing the world! Because remember, the world owes us sh%t!
A very warm Eid Mubarak to all of our Muslim friends and family around the world.
May the Almighty accept all of your efforts and attempts in the holy month of Ramadan that has just passed and may all the little changes made become permanent insha’allah (if he wills) aaameen.
May we get awarded the opportunity to see this month again, by the permission and the will of the almighty.
Whilst this will be the first year without my sister and my nieces, we will try to make the most of it inshallah.
Hoping that your day is filled with love, light, happiness, peace and joy.
My mission in life is not merely to survive but to thrive; and to do so with some passion🌈 ❤️, some compassion 🤗, some humour 😃and some style 😎💄
~ you got it, Maya Angelou
This week has been an extremely trying week. Work has been beyond overwhelming, it’s the last few days of Ramadan and my spirits have just been sweeping the floor!
Whenever I get like this, I pray and then I turn to some of my favorite authors or poets and peruse through their work. This always creates an escape for me, because I get so drawn into their work.
I came across this beautiful quote and I had to share, because as soon as I read it, my heart smiled!
THE Maya Angelou! What a creative, talented legend was she.
This quote reminded me that I shouldn’t just make it through the day, that I shouldn’t let work, or anything else, take “me” out of me, if that makes any sense lol! It reminds me that even when you feel like giving up, you should carry on, for after every rainy, gloomy day, there’s a 🌈that awaits!
Isn’t this how we should approach life? Let’s think about it:
With some passion, towards the things that warm our hearts.
Compassion, towards all the wrongs and evils and struggles in this world. Supporting and elevating each other.
Humour, because we know laughter is the best medicine contrary to what professionals may think
and then style, because that defines us, it’s ours and besides, some fresh swag, kicks and make up can turn any bodies day around!
Genius I tell you! Maya Angelou was pure genius!
PCHS: our survival kit to get through this journey called life
” The strength of a nation derives from the integrity of the home”
~ Confusius ( doesn’t seem confused to me 🙈)
I know I say this about every quote I publish, but I love this quote!
What is integrity?
To me, integrity is doing the right thing when nobody’s watching, it is doing what needs to be done based on principle and not on personal gain.
You agree? (Feel free to drop a comment and tell what it means to you.)
If we look around, how strong are our nations? I can tell you that mine is losing the trust of its people as the days go by. We’re constantly hearing of the bribery, fraud and corruption that’s going on in and with our government. The number of married people having affairs are on the rise. Kids are being kidnapped, cars are being hijacked, people are being killed for what’s rightfully theirs. Businesses are overcharging and under delivering. Service in general is just on the decrease.
If we all practice integrity and Inturn teach our young and loved ones by our actions, people would be doing the right thing always or atleast most of the time. We wouldn’t have as much of the stresses that we’re facing today and life would just have one less thing to deal with.
Whilst it would be rather utopian to think this is as simple as night and day, as we know the devil is a liar and is always lurking around, I believe we can reduce this significantly and just like everything else, it starts with you and I.
So let’s do the right thing always, let’s do what’s fair based on principle and not on personal gain. Not only will we strengthen our nation, but God will be pleased with us as well!
Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss in life is what dies inside us while we live.
~ Norman Cousins
Death. A topic none of us, well atleast many of us don’t like to speak about, even though, to me, it should be discussed a lot more.
With the world we live in, it’s so easy to get consumed and to forget that this life is temporary, it’s just a test. This life was never meant to be permanent.
This quote resonated so well with me because death is something guaranteed, it’s something we should expect right? Therefore, it cannot be the greatest “loss” of life because in many cases when you lose something, it’s unexpected, you have no warning that you’re going to lose it.
The greatest loss is indeed one where we have the capacity to do what we love and what’s required of us but we don’t, for whatever reason that may be. The greatest loss is losing our heart, or our fire; that passion that we was once had. We lose our mark and become a thing just existing day after day.
We lose sight of the career goals we once dreamed of. We lose sight of the essence of family and friends and true relations. We lose the kid in us, we forget how to see fun, colour and happiness in everything that we do. We forget the importance of God and our religious and spiritual obligation, we lose our humanity and moral obligations. We get consumed with things that really don’t matter.
Why? Isn’t that the greatest loss because we have the time, we have the gift of life. We have the opportunity.
It needs to all change.
Let’s use our time on this earth to fulfill all of our religious and spiritual obligations and our hearts desires. So that one day when we pass, we would be remembered for just that.
Life is all about balance, so whilst it’s ok to lose our spark sometime, it’s equally important to reignite that spark again.
Don’t let that die whilst you’re still alive. If anything, help be the match that reignites the spark back in somebody else. Be purposeful.
May we all strive harder to reignite that spark within and to leave our mark on this earth.

A father is neither an anchor to hold us back, nor a sail to take us there, but a guiding light whose love shows us the way
Whilst there’s many dads who are non existent, today we celebrate the fathers who are present in their kids lives, the ones that go far and beyond to do and be better.
Today I celebrate my father who is my guiding light. I started writing this post late lastnight, my dad wasn’t home yet, neither was he out with his friends. He was busy worshiping our creator at the mosque…at that time! I knew that I needed to finish this post as a small token of honour and appreciation.
You see my father is the best, I know it may seem biased because all girls are generally for their dads and all think that their fathers are the best, rightfully so.
But here’s why I say mine is. My father is the perfect example of what a Muslim should be; flaw-filled but always striving to do and be better in terms of character.
As old as I am, he still is my provider, my protector, my counselor, my confidant, my therapist, my guide, my example, my teacher. He still is my favourite soccer player, my movie date partner and sometimes my frenemy.
He is so bold yet so humble, my dad does tons of community work in our area. He makes time to visit and look after the elders in our community and also has such a playful yet impactful relationship with the youth. He makes me strive to do to more for others… what better example could I possibly need?
He literally makes lives easier, during the week he will clean and do our washing, he will go out of his way to ensure that he’s family is always #1, that we’re comfortable and happy even if it may tire him.
He is so fit 🙈at 53 he still plays soccer every Saturday and trains during the week ( this is one thing I could not follow suite with hahahah)
My fathers dedication to his faith is one of the most admirable things about him, he ensures he answers the call to prayer 5times a day, at his age, he is still learning to read Arabic and still attends madressa to learn more. God is really the greatest!
He is the perfect grand dad to my nieces , takes time to do the little things that make their little hearts happy, be it tickles, movies, outings etc.
He tries his best To honour my mother and that is such a beautiful thing to witness! Because she is a queen and he knows that. Witnessing him love and respect and honour her is a perfect example to us as his daughters because we know what not to settle for.
He is just an all round amazing dad and if he knew I published this, it would probably upset him because he’s that humble in all he does. I always get told after taking a picture of him “don’t put that on FACEBUCK” 🤣Yeap technology and him aren’t friends! #bless
So Daddy, words will never be able to thank you enough for the role you play in my life. Always there to push me when I’m struggling and there to catch me when I’m about to fall.
You are a Muslim personified, you teach me that it’s ok not to be perfect but that I should always persevere to be better in character for the sake of my creator and nobody else.
You teach me that I should want for my brother and neighbors all that I want for myself. You teach me that helping others is an obligation and not just a thing to do. You teach me to have courage and stand for what’s right even when it may not be fruitful and you teach me to be kind.
May the almighty bless you with a long , happy and healthy life so that you can continue doing the amazing work that you so wonderfully do, may he make it so that one day I could be nearly as impactful as you are inshallah ( by the will and permission of Allah). May all your hearts desires be fulfilled because I know they’re all pure. May Allah always be your guide and may he always help you with every difficulty you face. Aaameen
Happy daddy’s day to all the amazing dads out there! We need you.

I haven’t done a feature blog in forever, this being one of the very many reasons that I’m particularly stoked about this one. Q & A’s – getting to know Red robyn
Q: When did you know you that you wanted to pursue the Arts? A: I always knew [that] I wanted to be in the arts, from about 4/5 years old.
I always loved to draw, dance and sing. I come from a family [that] was always surrounded by music so it was an easy decision for me to make.
I’ve always loved how music and the arts can speak to hearts in a very personal way. I knew [that] I wanted to be able to bring healing to people through music and the arts. Now its just about being faithful to the journey as a full time artist.
Q: Why the stage name Red Robyn A: My second name is Robyn, after my grandfather. His name was Robin which comes from the Robin bird. I’m obsessed with symbolism and meaning so I went searching for the meaning of the Robin Bird. I came across a story of the Red Robin Bird and how it supposedly got it’s colour from sitting on Jesus’ [peace and blessings upon him] head when he died. I thought it meant that there is beauty in everything and the name stuck with me. I just thought it would be a name that would always encourage me to be bold even though I may be small/ of little importance. (you’re going to touch the world I say)
I’m so deep about everything hahaha. I literally have a story and a reason for everything.
(How special is this?)
Q: Walk us through some of the struggles/ challenges you face as an upcoming artist
A: There has definitely been hard times. Currently, I am a full-time, free lance artist and it can be difficult financially as gigs don’t always pay very well. Being an independent artist also means that you are your own PR, your own manager, events coordinator and stylist you know .. its all you. It can be overwhelming sometimes to have to always believe in yourself and carry your own name. It definitely pays off though, nothing can replace all the lifelong friendships made and the people who have been impacted by the live gigs and the music online. I never thought even 50 people would listen to my music but I am constantly surprised by all the love. ( and here’s to plenty more love, light and support)
Q: What are some of the projects you’ve worked on and/or will be working on?
A: In the last few months I have been working on an experimental musical (film) with the AFDA ( South African school of Motion Picture medium and live performances) students of the Durban North branch. (Click Here to watch the trailer). I have also been working on a collaborative mix tape with my musical partner and boy friend, Jaedon Daniel ( def an awww moment) who is the founder of the BLVCK crystals. We also went up to Cape Town in March to record two brand new singles with Red Bull Studios CPT, that was probably the craziest coolest experience, a momentous time for both of our careers.
In the next few months I will be working on a solo album and a few more collabs , as well as a staged musical production.
( Well I simply cannot wait!)
Q: What are your future aspirations ( the answer to this was so inspiring)
A: My ultimate dream is to develop a syllabus that uses the 7 intelligence theory as a foundation for developing the strengths in students from as young as 5. I see my entire journey as an artist and musician as a road to developing and understanding purpose, that will then be put into practice through the development of the syllabus. I would also like to win a Grammy , just for just hahaha. Each day presents new challenges so I try not to expect anything but to rather be open to everything. I think purpose and destiny are the two things that keep me moving forward though.
Let’s wrap it up
If you had to ask me who Red Robyn is, I will tell you that she is a movement, a force to be reckoned with.
Red Robyn, May your journey be fruitful and may you always remain as true, dedicated and humble as you are. Thank you for the wonderful opportunity of doing this feature on you. #bless
